What's a feed-in tariff?
When your solar panels generate more electricity than your home needs, the excess is automatically sent back to the electricity grid - the network that keeps electricity flowing to homes and businesses.
A solar feed-in tariff is a credit you could receive for solar electricity you send back to the grid.
How does a solar feed-in tariff work?
Your solar panels generate electricity during the day, and your home uses what it needs first.
Got some extra? It will be sent back to the grid. Your feed-in tariff rate is the amount you receive per kilowatt hour (kWh) for eligible solar power you export. It will appear as a credit on your bill and can help reduce your overall electricity bill.

What is Tango's feed-in tariff?
Tango's feed-in tariff rates vary depending on your state and energy plan.

Does a higher feed-in tariff mean lower electricity bills?
A higher feed-in tariff (FiT) will give you a larger bill credit but doesn't always mean you'll pay less overall.
What else should I look for?
The rate you pay for electricity can make a bigger difference to your bill than the FiT you receive. When you use your electricity matters too - using more electricity during the day, when your solar system is generating, means you can use more of your own solar power and buy less from the grid.
It's worth looking at the whole electricity plan - including electricity rates, daily supply charges and the feed-in tariff - as well as when and how much electricity you use at home.
Where does my exported solar power go?
Got more solar power than you need? It is automatically exported back into the electricity grid, where it can help power other homes and businesses. Thanks for sharing the sunshine!
